Causes of Destiny
(1) Exploitation of Five Senses.
Among all living things in the earth, Human Life is considered as the best and choicest one. With the gift of the 6th sense, namely the 'rational mind' the man is able to distinguish his wife, sister, and mother among others. He is able to differentiate between good and evil, sweet and bitter, danger and safety, etc. The Plants and trees have one sense. They suck the food from the place where they stand. The reptiles move from one place to another in search of food by way of smelling and they have two senses. The living things in water have 3 senses. The birds have 4 senses. The animals have 5 senses. ,Man enjoys the privilege of the 6th sense and this 6th sense differentiates man from animals, birds, insects and other living beings Man enjoys the happiness of five senses namely seeing, smelling, sensitizing(touching), tasting and hearing which ultimately pave the way for the destruction or say, for the death of man.
Examples: The fish is attracted by the smell of worm in a bait and is caught.(Smelling)Honey bees collect nectar from various flowers and keep them in their hives. In order to extract honey, the hunters put fire in the hives to kill the bees. The death of bees occurred owing to their want of taste of the honey.(Tasting)The hunters in the forest dug the earth and then cover the same with leaves and branches of trees so as to appear that the ground is not dug. This is a ploy employed to catch the elephants. The male elephants follow the female elephants to entice for sex and under the process, it falls into the trap. This is due to sensitizing (touching). The flies and insects mistake the fire and lights for a fruit during rainy season and when they come near, they die. This causes due to "Seeing"
Thus, death occurs to living beings through any one of the five senses. Thus, the five senses are more or less are death traps for human beings also. Therefore, man has to exercise control and carefully monitor all the senses.
(2)Inter-actions of the three characters of man:
All living things in the world are innately composed of the combination of the three characters namely Sattvas, Rajas and Tamas which determine the aptitude for the various possible actions which a living human being can perform via the nine planets and these characters inter-act in ending his life.
(1) Man's activities are based on passions and emotions blinded by desires. (Rajas) Man has wants that are not satiable. Man's wants are like sea waves. It recurs. One want gives birth to another want.
Illustration:
A rich man was traveling in a horse. One poor man who was walking without any chappal in the hot Sun begged this rich man for help. Taking pity on this man, the rich man gave his chappals. Then the poor man requested for some money. The rich man gave a few hundred rupees. Then the poor man requested to give him the umbrella since he is going in the hot Sun and since the rich man is traveling in a horse .The rich man gave the umbrella. Then the poor man begged for one shirt for him. The rich man gave his shirt also. The poor man was surprised and again he requested the rich man to give his horse to him since the rich man can afford to. The rich man got wild and he kicked the poor man shouting dirty words. Now the poor man begged his pardon and told him that he is now a satisfied man. He continued by saying that on receipt of this kick, he could firmly conclude that the rich man cannot gift any thing more and so, he is best satisfied with the things already gifted by him until now. And had he not asked for the horse, his innate desire would have been irritating him that in case he had asked for the horse, the benevolent rich man would have gifted the horse too and that he had missed the opportunity and now, having asked the same and having been declined by the rich man, he is now a well satisfied man.
(2)Man conducts himself without applying his judicial mind independently with reference to the particular facts and without thinking the pros and cons. (Tamas)
Illustration:
A man requested the King for some land for cultivation. The King asked him how much land he requires. The man left it to the choice of the King. The King told him that he can take as much land as he can, by marking the boundaries starting from the time of sun Rise and till the Sun Set in one day. The man started from the Sun Rise the next day, began the markings in the long stretch of lands anxiously. he did not take food or water. he did not take rest. his intention was to amass as much as lands before the Sun set. He was very much tired and restless and at last, he collapsed. He was buried in a 6 feet land.
(3) Man's activities are based on the principles of living and acting for the interests of others. Unattached to the results. (Sattvas)
Illustration:
A rich man and landlord used to send his young son to school in a bullock-cart. One day, while traveling along a river, the cartwheel got struck in the mud and the cart overturned. A farmer who was watering his paddy fields came to the rescue in time and saved the young boy and the driver. The young boy thanked the man for saving their life and requested him to come to his for a dinner and gift. The man refused under the pretext that this was a duty for all human beings and no special mention or reward is necessary. The young boy therefore, gifted his gold chain to him as gratitude. The man firmly declined to accept the gift and commended the young for his sense of gratitude ness and for the good manners. On reaching home, the young boy related all the events to his parents and relatives. His parents were very grateful as well as surprised and therefore, all of them came to the house of the man who saved the young boy. The man was very poor and earned his daily bread by working in the nearby paddy fields every day. The rich man's family was touched by his attitude and they wanted to do something for the welfare of this good Samaritan. They offered him a good job in their farmlands and took extra care in disbursing benefits to him
(3) The feeling of 'me', 'mine' in the mind of a man
Man forgets the natural event that one day he has to die and resorts to conspiracy, cheating, frauds, gambling, juggling, and prestidigitation. Plagiary, counterfeiting and trickery. Man involves in fighting and confrontation, adventurous, dangerous or courageous acts, physical exertion and harassing others. Man associates with wicked people, spies and thieves, servants, rogues and other low class people, serves as a butcher, executioner, mortician. In order to earn money, man is prepared to commit any type mistakes and to violate the laws of society and the dharma principles. The conduct and character of a man normally changes when he has earned money and wealth substantially. The easy accumulation of wealth and the sudden up rise in the society usher in a social status for him and he feels elevated. The feeling of 'me', 'mine' in his mind induces him do evil things and perishes him. He is emboldened now to act against the Principles of Natural Justice. and against Divine and Spiritual factors thereby landing into more and more problems and he loses his peace of mind and ultimately ends his life on earth.
