MACHINERY OF UNIVERSE
Thousands of stars are visible to the naked eye during night times. They appear as little points of light. Millions of heavenly bodies can be seen through telescope. The important heavenly bodies identified by the mankind are Stars, Planets, Comets, Meteors and asteroids.
Stars are more or less fixed in nature and shine on their own. They do not revolve around Sun and Moon.Meteors, also called 'Shooting Stars' are shining bodies falling from the sky and fading almost instantly. They are metallic bodies the chief content of which is iron. Comets are beautiful objects with heads, which send bright light forming a tail.Asteroids, discovered on Jan 1,1801,are minor planets with eccentric orbits mainly between the orbit of Mars and Jupiter.Satellites are objects that revolve around a Planet.Heavenly bodies other than the Stars, Comets, Meteors, Asteroids and Satellites are called Planets. Planets revolve around the Sun and rotate themselves.
There are nine Planets moving around the Sun. They are ranked in the order of distance from the Sun namely Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
