What is astrology?
The study of the influence of heavenly bodies on living things and on terrestrial affairs is called Astrology.
Nine Planets in Astrology
In Astrology, the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu are regarded as the "Nine Planets". Scientifically speaking, the Sun is a Star, the Moon is a Satellite of Earth and Rahu and Ketu are the two points of intersection of the Lunar Orbit and Ecliptic called the" Nodes" which have no physical existence at all. The Northern Intersection is called Rahu and the Southern Intersection is called Ketu.Rahu and Ketu are put in at an equal distance and both revolve in an anti-clockwise direction. i.e. opposite to the direction of other planets. These planets follow human beings like a shadow and influence and induce them to do particular activities as per the dictations of Karma.
Concept of Astrology
The Stars and Planets surrounded by their own magnetic and gravitational fields are radiating energy into space. They emit the rays of light and the Earth receives this light. These rays coming from the Sun, Moon, Planets and Stars, all separately influence the physical, environmental, mental and spiritual status of all living beings. This light also affects the unforeseen future. These light energies of the planets penetrate into the organism of human beings for performing particular actions.
Zodiac
The Planets move around the Sun in an elliptical Orbit and the path of this motion is called the "Ecliptic" and this limited swath of sky within which the planets are constrained to wander is called "Zodiac".
The Zodiac is divided into 12 equal segments with a length of 300 each and is called a Constellation . A Constellation is a heap of micro-zodiacs or amshas.and is named after an imaginary figure it resembles. The 9th division of a constellation is called 'Navamsha'. Since every portion of the zodiac or amsha is smaller than the Constellation, they manage the Constellation by delineating results for specific matters within a broad context of each Constellation. Navamsha is particularly useful to differentiate between two similar horoscopes.
The Zodiac is a chain of 27 fixed Lunar stars on which the planets tread on their path. Each Constellation within the 300segment consists of an identifiable group of fixed Stars and the Hindus called these Stars as "Nakshatras", the Chinese called them as" Sieu", the Egyptians called them as" Manzils" or "Lunar mansions". The 27lunar stars are Ashwini, Bharani, Krittika, Rohini, Mrigashirsha,Ardra, Punarvasu, Pushya, Ashlesha, Magha,Purva, Phalguni, UttaraPhalguni,Hasta,,Chitra, Swathi, Vishaka, Anuradha, Jyeshtha, Mula, Purva Ashadha, UttaraAshadha, Shravana, Dhanishtha, Shatabisha, Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada, and Revathi.
The degree of the Zodiac intersected by the Eastern Horizon at the place and time of birth of a human being is termed as "Ascendant". The Ascendant called the" Lagna" in astrology, ties the position of planets to the place and time of birth.Planets are strong and well placed when they occupy their own constellations.
